Steps to Kitchen Design and Kitchen Cabinets Remodeling

Does your kitchen work for your current lifestyle and needs? If not, it might be time for a kitchen renovation. It can seem intimidating, but with the help of one of our designers, your dream space will take shape smoothly.

It’s all about the planning

There is a shift in today’s homes, leaning away from formal dining rooms and back to the “eat in kitchen” concept. Kitchens tend to be the place where family and friends congregate when visiting.  Does your kitchen and kitchen cabinets work for your current lifestyle and needs? If not, it might be time for a kitchen remodel. This is your time to make your space work for your unique needs.

Before you start thinking about the style of kitchen cabinets you want, it is helpful to evaluate your current space.  What do you love about your current space, and what is a constant source of frustration?  Do you need more storage, more prep space, more seating?  Who uses the space most often? That person’s interests and ideas should be considered.  Think about how many people are in your kitchen at mealtime or how often you entertain.

Dream big.

Take inspiration wherever you find it: the homes of family and friends, magazines, online images and websites (think Pinterest, Houzz, HGTV etc.). Save ideas and images that you like. This is easy to do online by creating a folder, board or slide show filled with the images that you like, the colors that caught your eye, or the details that interest you.  Be sure to note what you like about the image for later reference. This process will be a help for any designer you work with. It should also help you to see your style and color palette taking shape. Right now, you’re just dreaming, so dream big!  The experience of remodeling your kitchen and your kitchen cabinets should be a fun and amazing experience.

Make an appointment with a designer.

When you have some kitchen cabinets ideas and have identified your kitchen likes and dislikes, your must-haves and would-be-nice-to-haves, it is time to visit with a Riverhead Building Supply kitchen designer. Scheduling a meeting in advance will give both of you the time you need to discuss your plans without interruption. The first meeting will be an opportunity for the designer to get to know you and get an idea of how you use your space. If you have rough measurements of your space, bring those too.

Once you have met with a designer, your designer will want to see your current kitchen. He or she will want to come to your home, take measurements, and get a feel for the space, the kitchen cabinets layout, what the workspace is like, what the traffic pattern is. This is a great time to point out the things that you love (lots of natural daylight, for example) and hate (such as kitchen cabinets that are difficult to access) in your current space, maybe even some things you forgot to bring up at your first meeting.

Our designers can steer you towards the best solutions for your space, your style, and your budget. We have several different kitchen cabinets manufacturers that we work with that cover a full range of possibilities. We have solutions for modest budgets or fast turnaround times; selections for mid-range budgets or flexible delivery schedules; and choices of cabinetry where the need for customization is most important, and the timeline and budget can be adapted as needed.
